I have been drawing and painting the human figure since I was a very small child. It has always been an intense source of interest and satisfaction for me to capture the subtle emotions and reflected light on my subjects in natural settings, most often involving waterscapes. My media is oil on canvas, and I employ many, fine layers of paint to achieve the final effect. I am self-taught, having always felt strongly compelled to make my own decisions as to how I expressed my creativity. I seek to explore, learn and evolve in ways that allow me to maintain my own, unique vision of my world.
Observing my family, 4 children, friends, and now grandchildren as they grow and experience their world, has always given me ample opportunity to witness all of the life-giving ways we can connect with and enjoy our natural surroundings. I find great pleasure in capturing "moments in time" like these in my artwork.
Early in life, I formed a close affinity with water and have been fortunate to enjoy and explore the many beautiful lakes in the surrounding Lake Country area of Wisconsin. I also spent two adventurous years, after my children were grown, living in a log cabin that I built in a remote area of the mountains in New Hampshire. The mountains, forests, rivers, streams and nearby seacoast region contributed to a highly inspirational and creative time of growth for me. I am fascinated by the sound, the feel and the movement of water, as well as the relationship we share with it.
I find that painting water is challenging and mysterious, with its many, subtle layers of light and reflections. To me, it expresses the true essence of our own being....flowing, changing, ageless and eternal, and it has always been a pathway for me to access and connect to the source from which we all flow. It is my sincere wish that my paintings express this to you in some way. I hope they bring you a sense of that part of yourself which is at the center.....flowing, peaceful and connected to "all that is."
